Johanna Venner and family

Believed to have been taken in or after 1898 following the death of a son in law. Johanna Venner , head of the house is sitting at the front, she is aged 63. Her husband Samuel and eldest son William were lost in the Seaham Colliery disaster of 1880, two of the 164 deaths that day.

Originally from Cornwall, the family were miners and moved to Cornish Street in Durham between 1869 and 1871. This photo is believed to show some or all of Johanna's surviving children -
Four sons; Samual 38, John 37, Moses 36 and Thomas 31
Two daughters; Rachel 32 and Joannah(Johanna) 29
and the grandchildren.
